Shardiya Navratri 2026 opens on 11 October with Maa Shailputri, the daughter of the mountains. On Maha Navami, Monday 19 October 2026, it closes with Maa Siddhidatri, the goddess who holds every spiritual power there is and gives it away to those who worship her. After eight days of fasting, prayer and ritual, devotees end the festival by asking her to make that effort count.

Who Is Maa Siddhidatri? The Giver of Siddhis

Her name joins siddhi (spiritual power or perfection) with datri (giver). Devotees worship her as the ninth and final Navdurga, and as the source from which every other form of the Goddess draws her strength.

She sits on a fully bloomed lotus, though some images show her on a lion. In her four hands she carries a chakra (discus), a gada (mace), a shankh (conch) and a lotus. Her expression stays calm and generous, the look of someone who has everything and holds nothing back.

The Eight Siddhis She Grants

The Markandeya Purana lists eight great siddhis, and Siddhidatri is the goddess who bestows them:

SiddhiWhat it means
AnimaBecoming as small as an atom
MahimaExpanding to infinite size
GarimaBecoming immeasurably heavy
LaghimaBecoming weightless
PraptiReaching anywhere at will
PrakamyaFulfilling any wish
IshitvaMastery over creation
VashitvaControl over the elements and the mind

For most devotees, these aren't literal goals. They stand for a mind that is free, steady and unafraid, which is what people really ask for on Navami.

Siddhidatri Mata ki Katha: How Shiva Became Ardhanarishvara

At the very beginning of creation, before the universe had taken shape, Lord Shiva worshipped Adi Parashakti, the primordial Goddess, for the power to create. She appeared to him as Siddhidatri and blessed him with all eight siddhis.

The moment those powers entered him, half of Shiva's body became the Goddess herself. From then on he was Ardhanarishvara, the Lord who is half woman, his right side Shiva and his left side Shakti.

The story carries the deepest idea of Navratri: power and consciousness can't exist apart. Shiva without Shakti can't act, and Shakti without Shiva has no form. On Navami, devotees honour the Goddess who made that union possible.

Maa Siddhidatri Mantra (with Meaning)

Chant her main mantra 108 times on Navami, ideally before the havan or Kanya Pujan:

ॐ देवी सिद्धिदात्र्यै नमः॥

Om Devi Siddhidatryai Namah

"Salutations to Goddess Siddhidatri."

Maa Siddhidatri Beej Mantra and Dhyana Mantra

During the Navami havan, offer each ahuti with her beej mantra, ॐ ह्रीं क्लीं ऐं सिद्धिदात्र्यै नमः स्वाहा (Om Hreem Kleem Aim Siddhidatryai Namah Swaha).

Before the puja, recite the dhyana mantra to call her form to mind:

सिद्धगन्धर्वयक्षाद्यैरसुरैरमरैरपि। सेव्यमाना सदा भूयात् सिद्धिदा सिद्धिदायिनी॥

Siddha Gandharva Yakshadyair Asurair Amarairapi, Sevyamana Sada Bhuyat Siddhida Siddhidayini

"Worshipped by siddhas, gandharvas, yakshas, demons and gods alike, may the giver of siddhis always grant me success."

Maha Navami: How Navratri Comes to a Close

Navami pulls the whole festival together. Families who didn't hold Kanya Pujan on Ashtami do it on Navami, most homes light their final havan, and everyone who has fasted for nine days breaks the vrat.

  • Kanya Pujan. Nine young girls come home and receive worship as forms of the Devi, often with one young boy, the langur, representing Bhairav. If you can't host them at home, you can offer a Kanya Charan Pujan at a temple instead.
  • The Navami havan. Many families save their main Navratri havan for Navami, offering ahutis to all nine forms of Durga.
  • Breaking the fast (paran). After Kanya Pujan and the havan, devotees eat the prasad and close their Navratri vrat. Some wait until Dashami morning instead, so follow your family's custom.

Maa Siddhidatri Puja Vidhi on Navratri Day 9

  1. Bathe early and wear clean clothes, ideally in the day's colour.
  2. Water the barley one last time and keep the kalash in place for the closing rites.
  3. Set up her picture on a red cloth with a lotus or any fresh flowers.
  4. Recite the dhyana mantra, "Siddha Gandharva Yakshadyair..."
  5. Chant her mantra, "Om Devi Siddhidatryai Namah," 108 times.
  6. Offer til (sesame) as bhog.
  7. Perform the havan and Kanya Pujan, in whichever order your family follows.
  8. Close with the aarti, then share the prasad and break your fast.

Maa Siddhidatri Bhog and Colour

Offer her sesame seeds, plain or as til laddoos made with jaggery. Small as they are, til seeds stand for completeness, a fitting offering on the day your prayers are fulfilled. See how the nine offerings build across the festival in the Navratri bhog for 9 days list.

Wear peacock green on Navami. Its blend of blue and green suits a day of fulfilment and fresh hope, and it closes out the Navratri colours 2026 sequence.

Siddhidatri Mata ki Aarti

Families close the last evening of Navratri with the same Durga aarti they've sung all nine days, Jai Ambe Gauri:

जय अम्बे गौरी, मैया जय श्यामा गौरी। तुमको निशिदिन ध्यावत, हरि ब्रह्मा शिवरी॥

Jai Ambe Gauri, Maiya Jai Shyama Gauri, Tumko Nishidin Dhyavat, Hari Brahma Shivari.

"Victory to Mother Gauri, on whom Hari, Brahma and Shiva meditate day and night."

At Nav Devi Mandir in the Vaishno Devi region, temple Pandits close Navratri with a 9 Devi Shakti Maha Havan and Kanya Pujan, honouring all nine forms in a single havan.

Benefits of Worshipping Siddhidatri Devi

  • Fulfilment of the festival's prayers. Devotees believe she brings the intentions of all nine days to completion.
  • Spiritual progress. Seekers pray to her for wisdom, focus and freedom from ignorance.
  • Success in work. As the giver of siddhi, she's prayed to before new ventures and exams.
  • Balance. Her Ardhanarishvara story makes her a focus for harmony between opposite forces, in a marriage or within oneself.

The Last Night, and What It Completes

Navratri moves through nine faces of the Goddess: the mountain's daughter, the ascetic, the warrior, the creator, the mother, the slayer of Mahishasura, the dark protector, the pure one, and finally Siddhidatri, the one who gives. Each day asks something of you, a fast, a prayer, an offering. Navami is the day you ask her to complete it. Light the last lamp, feed the kanyas, offer a handful of til, and let the festival end the way it began, with devotion.

If you'd like a Navratri puja performed at a temple on your behalf, Ekishwar can arrange it at a Shakti Peeth, in your name.
