Navratri Bhog for 9 Days: Day-wise Bhog List for Each Devi (Navratri ke 9 Din ke Bhog)
From ghee for Maa Shailputri to til for Maa Siddhidatri: the bhog for each of the nine days of Navratri 2026, what it means, and how to prepare it simply.
Bhog is one of the most personal parts of Navratri. Long before the aarti plays, someone in the house is already deciding what to cook for Mata today, because each of the nine forms of Durga has her own favourite offering.
From Maa Shailputri's ghee on Day 1 to Maa Siddhidatri's til on Day 9, no two days call for the same offering, and each one carries its own reason. Here's the full nine-day list, what each bhog means, and how to prepare it without any fuss.

Significance of Navratri Bhog
Bhog is more than food on a plate. It is prepared with care, offered to the Devi before anyone else eats, and then shared as prasad, which is what makes it a prasadam rather than an ordinary dish. Many families also keep the kitchen free of onion and garlic while cooking it, in line with the vrat (fasting) followed on these days.
Why Does the Bhog Change Every Day?
Each form of Durga worshipped in Navratri represents a different quality, and the bhog offered to her is chosen to reflect it. Ghee for Shailputri stands for good health, honey for Katyayani for sweetness and harmony, and til for Siddhidatri for the fulfilment of wishes.
Learn more: is the bhog list the same everywhere in India?
The core list above is the most common one. Free Press Journal and several Hindi publications carry close variants, with the same nine items. In South India, many households instead rotate savoury Navaratri prasadam like pulihora, sundal and curd rice, so always check your family's own tradition first.
Navratri Day-wise Bhog Explained: Day 1 to Day 9
Navratri Day 1 Bhog: Desi Ghee for Maa Shailputri (11 October)
Ghee is offered to Maa Shailputri, the daughter of the Himalayas, for good health and a strong start to the fast. Many households stir a spoon of ghee into the first meal after the morning puja. Those marking the day with a Shailputri havan at a Shakti Peeth often offer ghee there too.
Navratri Day 2 Bhog: Sugar or Mishri for Maa Brahmacharini (12 October)
Sugar or mishri is offered to Maa Brahmacharini, the Devi of tapasya, with prayers for a long and peaceful life. It is one of the simplest bhogs to prepare, which suits a day many devotees keep as a quiet fast.
Navratri Day 3 Bhog: Kheer for Maa Chandraghanta (13 October)
Milk-based kheer is offered to Maa Chandraghanta for courage and protection from negativity. A small bowl is enough, and any leftover rice or vermicelli can be used as the base.
Navratri Day 4 Bhog: Malpua for Maa Kushmanda (14 October)
Malpua, a sweet pancake, is offered to Maa Kushmanda for clarity and good decision-making. It is one of the more festive bhogs, often shared with the whole family. Those also performing the Navratri Mahalakshmi Pooja in Kashi on this day often prepare malpua as part of the day's offerings too.
Navratri Day 5 Bhog: Banana for Maa Skandamata (15 October)
Bananas are offered to Maa Skandamata, the mother of Kartikeya, with prayers for the wellbeing of children. It is the easiest bhog on the list and needs no cooking at all. Day 5 is also when many devotees sponsor a reading of the Durga Saptashati path.
Navratri Day 6 Bhog: Honey for Maa Katyayani (16 October)
Honey is offered to Maa Katyayani for harmony and sweetness in relationships. A spoon of honey with fruit is a common, simple way to offer it.
Navratri Day 7 Bhog: Jaggery for Maa Kalratri (17 October)
Jaggery, or gur, is offered to Maa Kalratri, the fierce form of Durga, for inner strength and protection from negativity. It can be offered plain or made into a simple gur-til ladoo.
Navratri Day 8 Bhog: Coconut for Maa Mahagauri (18 October)
Coconut is offered to Maa Mahagauri on Durga Ashtami, the same day Kanya Pujan is often performed. Many families break the coconut as part of the Ashtami puja and distribute the pieces as prasad to the kanyas and guests.
Navratri Day 9 Bhog: Sesame Seeds for Maa Siddhidatri (19 October)
Til, or sesame seeds, are offered to Maa Siddhidatri, the giver of siddhis, on Maha Navami. Til ladoo or a simple til-jaggery mix is the easiest way to prepare it.
Navami is also when Kanya Pujan is completed, and not every family can host nine kanyas at home. Ekishwar offers a Nav Devi Manokamna Nariyal & Kanya Charan Pujan chadhawa, where the ritual is performed at the temple in your name: see the Kanya Charan Pujan chadhawa.
Taking Part From Home
Not every household can cook a fresh bhog each day, and that is alright. The intent behind the offering matters more than how elaborate it is. If you'd rather have the day's puja performed on your behalf at the temple itself, that is also a common and accepted way to take part.

Navratri Me Mata Ko Bhog Kaise Lagaye
A common question during the fast is Navratri me kya bhog lagaye each day. Offering bhog doesn't need an elaborate process. A few simple steps are enough:
- Prepare with a clean kitchen. Bathe before cooking, and keep the kitchen free of onion and garlic, as is customary during the Navratri vrat.
- Offer before you eat. Place the bhog in front of the Devi's photo or murti, light a diya, and offer it with a short prayer before anyone in the house eats.
- Keep it simple. A small portion is enough. The devotion behind the offering matters more than the quantity.
- Distribute as prasad. Once offered, share the bhog among family members, neighbours or anyone visiting that day.
Celebrating Navratri, Wherever You Are
The right bhog on the right day keeps the ritual going at home, but not everyone can also travel to a Devi temple during these nine nights. For those who'd like a puja performed at the temple itself, in their name, Ekishwar offers Navratri pujas at Shakti Peeths across India, from the Day 1 havan at Haridwar to Kanya Pujan on Navami.
