Ancestral peace
Helps calm departed souls
For remembering ancestors and offering them peace through water prayers.

Pitru Tarpan is a simple but important ancestral ritual where water mixed with sesame seeds and mantra is offered in the name of departed ancestors. In Sanatan tradition, water is believed to be the most basic offering that reaches the Pitru lok.
People usually do Pitru Tarpan when they want to remember their ancestors, fulfil family duty, or when they feel that ancestral blessings are needed for peace at home. It is also commonly done during Amavasya, Pitru Paksha, or before major family events.
At Triveni Sangam in Somnath, Pitru Tarpan is performed at the sacred confluence, which is considered highly suitable for ancestral rites. The pandit takes sankalp in the devotee’s name and offers tarpan step by step as per vidhi.
This ritual is often chosen by those who want to perform a simple, respectful ancestral offering without doing a full Shraddh.
